“Sport Three” reports that the German Football Federation has announced that the cities of Frankfurt, Stuttgart, and Leipzig are striving to prepare themselves to host the final of the European club football competition in 2026 and 2027.
These cities have today submitted their proposals to the European Union, and given that these cities are also slated to host matches in Euro 2024, they are in a good position to host the final matches of the two tournaments.
Stuttgart aims to host the final of the Women’s Champions League in 2026 or 2027, while Frankfurt is seeking to host the final of the Men’s European League and Leipzig wants to host the final of the European Conference League.
UEFA is expected to announce the hosts for European competitions in the coming weeks, but changes to the format of the competitions may delay the decision for at least a year.
Germany has never hosted the final of the Conference League, and Cologne was the host of the final of the European League in 2020. It is also worth mentioning that the final of the Women’s Champions League was last held in Berlin in 2015, and German cities have not hosted the final of the Champions League in the past 9 years, but the final of next year’s Champions League will be hosted in Munich.
